MICHIGAN CITY -- Jasmin Ouschan raised her pool cue and smiled broadly after beating Kelly Fisher in the Great Lakes Classic 9-ball tourney final Sunday.

It was the most emotion underdog Ouschan showed all day in earning her third Women's Professional Billiard Association title. The blonde native of Austria joined the pro tour in 2007.

She took advantage of Fisher's break in Game 2 to sink a 2-9 combo for a quick 2-0 lead then went up 4-1 and cruised 7-2. Game 2 lasted about one minute.

"When I was up 6-2 I felt victory was close," grinned Ouschan. "All the pressure was off at the end."

She was 17th last year in her first Great Lakes Classic at the Blue Chip Casino-Hotel.

She credited her comeback from an 8-4 hole Saturday for inspiring her to prevail. She took five straight games for a 9-8 rally that kept her in the winners bracket. "After that I felt like I have to win. It was a huge confidence boost. It gave me energy and motivation."

This is the first time Ouschan has not gone through the losers round. She didn't give Fisher a chance to gain momentum in the final, taking a long Game 1 and a quick Game 2 that took her just two shots.

In Game 3 she sank a ball on the break, made a tough cut shot into the side and dominated for a 3-0 lead.

Fisher ran the last six balls to get within 3-1. She missed a corner shot the next game and Ouschan took advantage to run eight straight for a 4-1 bulge. Fisher then ran seven to get within 4-2 but didn't threaten again.

Ouschan sank one on the Game 7 break and ran eight straight. The next game Fisher sank the 8-ball on the break, giving Ouschan a free shot and she ran nine in a row.

Pumped for Game 9, Ouschan, 27, sank two on her break, using her break stick. She smiled for the first time when her banked lag barely touched the target ball. She sank the 8-ball on a tough corner cut then the 9 for victory.

"It's been an amazing tourney," she said. "This is a huge achievement. I had to fight through so many matches. Not going through the losers round is a really big thing for me."

Fisher has finished second the last two years here. She lost the 2008 final to Allison Fisher, no relation, in a battle of Brits. But Kelly got revenge late Saturday, ousting defending champ Allison 9-4.

"This is one of my favorite events. I seem to do well here," Kelly Fisher said. "I'm pleased with how I played this tourney. Jasmin played fantastic. She won the breaks and ran tables. I didn't have much chance and never got into a flow. I look forward to coming back next year."

In a sport that's about placement, skill, touch and setting up the next shot(s) Ouschan was better Sunday.

In Sunday's semifinals Ouschan beat last year's semifinalist Karen Corr 7-3. Fisher ousted China's Xiaoting Pan, the 2007 champ, 7-4.

A "jet-lagged" Ouschan came here after competing two weeks in the Philippines and a week in Shanghai. Her next event is the World Games on July 22-26 in Taiwan. She won the 2005 Games title.

The Great Lakes semis and final are scheduled to air on ESPN on July 12. The TV sports network used four cameras including a hand-held and boom-operated.

Ted Bogich, Blue Chip GM, said "this is a perfect event for us and our fifth year hosting the WPBA. The vision for our property is as a regional gaming and entertainment destination."
